Welcome to week 3's blog. This week in math we started a new unit on multiplication. We learned that arrays shows objects in equal rows and columns. We also learned that when objects are in equal groups we can multiply to find the answer.
In writing we worked with a partner to revise our friendly letters and make them better. We looked to see if we needed to add, cut, and move information. We also edited each others letters for spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. Now we are publishing them.
In reading we are learning about informational text (non-fiction). We read a piece of  text about the leaning tower of Pisa, called Stopping a Toppling Tower. We identified the features of non-fiction, such as titles, heading, and pictures, and talked about how they help us understand the text. We also looked at how this text was structured. This text was a problem-solution type text.
In science, we tracked our shadows. We discovered that our shadows move throughout the day. They move because the Sun changes position in the sky. In the morning our shadows pointed west, and after lunch they pointed northeast.
It's been a hot, busy week! Check back next week to see what we've been up to.

This week we learned that the Sun rises in the east and sets in the  west. The Sun appears to travel across the sky throughout the day. We observed this by going outside and pointing to the Sun at different times. Everytime we went outside, we noticed that we were pointing in a different direction.
In writing we wrote lots of friendly letters to our friends and family. We also spent a lot of time presenting our Me Collages. They were fabulous!
In math we learned about horizontal and vertical bar graphs, line plots, and coordinate grids. Next week we'll take a test on what we learned.
In health we learned that before we exercise we should always warm-up and after exercises we should cool down. We can warm up by stretching.
Pencil Pete arrived this week and he is teaching us how to write in cursive.
On Friday Mrs. McKelvey showed us how to use our new Promethean Smart Board. It's awesome!!!!!!!
    Until next week...

Dear Parents/Guardians:
This week in writing we made tee shirt designs. We wrote about an event from our summer vacation.
In math we learned about tally tables and frequency tables. We made lots of tables including one that surveyed our hair color, kinds of pets we had, and favorite sports.
We started jogging club. We have some super runners and super fit students in our class!
We started a book called Judy Moody by Megan McDonald. We are really enjoying this funny book.
Our "Me Collages" are due on Monday...so don't forget.

Mrs. McKelvey and the students of B-12
