Happy, Healthy Drug-Free Me
In this unit we've learned some important facts about medicines and other drugs. Here are the main ideas from our unit:
Projects
How to Refuse Drugs
Create a cartoon about people your age who are asked by an older student to smoke marijuana. Include words and actions the people use to refuse the drug.
Write the script for your cartoon either in Word or draft it in your notebook.
Medicines and Drugs: Helpful or Harmful
Create a project that shows or tells about the difference between helpful and harmful drugs. Write, say, or show some safety rules for using helpful drugs (or medicines). Use text, images, and video if you want in your poster.
You will need to plan out your report. Make a rough sketch of what you want on your poster in your journal. Or write the script for your cartoon in your notebook or in Word...what will each character say?
Dangers of Using Drugs
Create a cartoon message or poster about the dangers of drugs. This project should warn others about the dangers of using drugs. It should include information about how to refuse drugs. Write the script for your cartoon either in Word or draft it in your notebook. Or draw a sketch of your poster on scratch paper or in your journal.
Tobacco and Alcohol Affect Body Organs
Create a report about the harmful effects for tobacco and alcohol. You may want to use a diagram of a body (like in the textbook, p. 204) to show how these drugs harm the body. Include text and images. Perhaps, you can connect text boxes to the parts of the body and explain how alcohol or tobacco harms the body part. Include tips on how you can avoid using alcohol and tobacco. Make a rough sketch of what you want on your poster in your journal.
You could also make a cartoon skit. Have each cartoon character play a different body part. Then each character can explain how alcohol and tobacco affect the body part.
Timeline
You will have three to four hours to complete this project. You will need to use your time wisely. Your projects will be shared with the class and published on our class blog.
Step 1: Plan your Glogster poster or write your cartoon script. What will you include? What will you say? Look at the resources in our classroom and check the links below. Use your journal to take notes. (1 1/2 hours)
Step 2: Begin your cartoon by entering your script on the Go Animate website OR begin laying out your design on Glogster. Choose your images and start writing your textboxes. (1 hour)
